Week of April 27 - May 1, 2015:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday are Blue days.
Tuesday and Thursday are Silver days.
Overview of our week:
Students are visiting the Book Fair during language arts classes on Monday and Tuesday. Students can make out their "Wish Lists" and bring money for purchases later in the week. I will let them go to the Book Fair to make their purchases during silent reading time.
Students will receive (by Wednesday) a new list of affixes (word "stems" or roots, suffixes and prefixes) for vocabulary study. They will need to create a "Study Stack" for these affixes. This can be on the "Study Stack" website OR they can make a set of flash cards with index cards - either one is fine. The study stack is due May 7/8. On a date to be determined later, we will have a test combining the new affixes with some that we've studied in the past.
We will be working in the "Writing Workshop" area of Moby Max this week which is teaching us how to write a persuasive essay. This site takes students through an awesome lesson on persuasive writing, step by step, all the way through to the finished product. It's a beautiful thing! Students will have class time to work on this. The due date for the essay is May 21/22.
At any time, students can go to the "Test Prep" area of Moby Max and practice for the SOL! Actually, any of the language arts buttons on Moby Max are good practice :) Most of our focus in the coming weeks is on SOL review and preparation.
If there's a book you really want to read
but it hasn't been written yet,
then you must write it.
